ESO 1: 3rd Term PBL Assignment

COMICS!

Resultado de imaxes para comic book

Dear ESO 1 Students,

This is your last term PBL assignment. Now you will have to create your own webcomic.

To do so, you must craft a creative story and draw your own characters and their roles.

Your comic strips must contain:

- Layout (design)
- Imaginary and unique characters (give them names and moods)
- Dialogues (put your grammar and vocabulary into practice)
- Setting (draw the different places where the story happens)
- Plot (the whole story)

Here you have a video and a website with interesting ideas on how to create your webcomic:

https://www.gocomics.com/ (web comic samples)

After putting all your bright ideas together, you should shape them into cool and eye-catching comic stipes that will bring your heroes to life. Here are some online comic strip creators:

Makebeliefscomix

Pixton

Toondoo

webcomics (Google Play App)

Once you have finished your comic strip, you can send it by email or print it and hand it in in time.

The deadline for this assignment is Friday, May 31, 2019. No assignment will be accepted after this date. Remember that you can send your webcomics before the deadline.

There is an artist inside you waiting to create visual art and take the world by storm.

Good luck on your creations!

Speaking Exchange

A group of young Brazilian students were keen on learning to speak English fluently. At the same time, lots of elderly people living in residential homes in the USA were longing to talk to someone. The idea was to connect them via Internet.

Would you like to experience this type of  “exchange”?

What do you want to be when you grow up?

ESO 4 Students,

Are you looking for your passion in life? Discover who you are, what you love, and the career that’s meant for you on Sokanu.... while reading in English and  learning lots of new vocabulary.

Your career, next to your relationships with friends and family, is the most important investment of your life. It's likely the greatest investment of your time. It's the biggest decider of the type of people you spend your time with every day, the environment that you spend your days in, and what you do with your mind and body. The cool part is that all of these details are what make a fun, purposeful life well-lived.

Sokanu is to be the place you come to whenever you have a question about your career. What do I want to be when I grow up? Who am I as a person? Who is similar to me?

Sokanu is a platform for everyone. Nearly every person must "work" to make a living, yet very few of us find the work we are meant to do.

Dangers of Careless Internet Surfing

What is the name of your children? What was the price of your house? How much money is there on your bank account? How much did you spend on clothes last month? What is your bank card code number? Your entire life is online, and it may be used against you. That is why you have to be vigilant.

Dave, a grey haired man with a spiritual look on his face, is a fortune-teller. Or better said: he pretends to be a fortune-teller. In fact, he is an actor who constantly gets his information from a small microphone in his ear. The people who provide him with information, are hackers wearing a balaclava and hiding behind a shabby curtain. They are constantly screening public websites for information about the unsuspecting visitors waiting in line for a consultation with this medium. The things they find, are truly spectacular.

Right Brain - Left Brain

Left Brain - I am the left brain. I am a scientist. A mathematician. I love the familiar. I categorize. I am accurate. Linear. Analytical. Strategic. I am practical. Always in control. A master of words and language. Realistic. I calculate equations and play with numbers. I am order. I am logic. I know exactly who I am.

Labor English Zone 2nd Anniversary

Labor English Zone started on 6th December 2009. Since then we have published 500+ posts and have received over 17,500 visitors who have viewed more than 26,000 pages. Our busiest day was 11th May 2010, when our hits peaked at 122 visitors (we guess the following day there was a pbl deadline or some kind of exam!!).  And if you google us you will obtain 2,700,000+ results. Posted on February 27th 2010, this entry about school jokes, with over 580 visitors, has been the most popular one during first two years.

We want to thank you all for being there and for your visits. We would like to encourage you to send us comments and messages with your ideas and suggestions for new posts. We are interested in hearing what interests you.

To celebrate we are 2 years old, we publish again our first post, "The Italian Man Who Went to Malta":

6th December 2009

Let's begin with some humour. Italian and Spanish are arguably the hardest accents to get rid of. Practise pronunciation drills and try to polish your accent in case you go to Malta too!!

Google Effect: Google and your Memory

Sometimes remembering is not just everything. More important than that is knowing where to find the information, telling the difference between what is important and what is not, having the skills to understand and analyse it, establishing links and relationships between data... and then keeping in mind where it is stored so that we can use it time and again.

Merriam Webster Visual Dictionary Online

ESO Students,

We would like to recommend a very useful resource, the online visual dictionary by Merriam Webster. It is structured in 15 major themes to access over 6,000 images. In our opinion it is one of the few linguistic online tools which rivals Google Images.

The Visual Dictionary is designed to help you find the right word at a glance. Filled with stunning illustrations labelled with accurate terminology in up to six languages, it is the ideal language-learning and vocabulary dictionary for use at school, at home or at work.

When you know what something looks like but not what it’s called, or when you know the word but can’t picture the object, The Visual Dictionary has the answer. In a quick look, you can match the word to the image.
The Visual Dictionary is more than a reliable resource of meticulously labelled images—it innovates by combining dictionary-scale definitions with exceptional illustrations, making it the most complete dictionary.

The Visual Dictionary is an indispensable visual reference that goes beyond object identification to answer questions about function, significance and purpose. Ideal for teachers, parents, writers, translators and students of all skill levels, it helps the user understand a phenomenon and quickly grasp the meaning of a term, the characteristics of an object or simply learn something new.

You Need To Get Off Facebook

Labor Students,
Have you got a Facebook account? Or Twitter? or Tuenti? Maybe you have an account in some or all of them. Do you spend too much time on the social networks? Actually, do you waste your time on them? Are you learning anything from your social network? Do you get any profit from them?

Maybe these questions had never even occurred to you. Or maybe they had because you've experienced this uneasy feeling 'I really ought to be doing something else but I'll log off in just a sec'. That is why we would like to offer you some answers. Watch this video carefully and THINK!
