President Barack Obama's Graduation Speech to the Class of 2020

ESO 4 Students,

In less than a fortnight you will have to submit your links (remember, no videos to download, only links to some video platform) with your graduation speeches. If you need any ideas on rhythm, speed, pause, intonation or pose, please watch President Obama's Graduation Speech to you... to the Class of 2020. You won't regret it.

Read the full transcript here:

Hi, everybody. Congratulations to HBCU class of 2020. Michelle and I are so proud of you.

Graduating from college is a big achievement under any circumstances. And so many of you overcame a lot to get here. You navigated challenging classes, and challenges outside the classroom. Many of you had to stretch to afford tuition. And some of you are the first in your families to reach this milestone. So even if half of this semester was spent at Zoom University, you’ve earned this moment. You should be very proud. Everybody who supported you along the way is proud of you – parents, grandparents, professors, mentors, aunties, uncles, brothers, sisters, cousins, second cousins, and cousins who you aren’t even sure are cousins. Show them some gratitude today.

ESO 4: Graduation Speech New Plan

ESO 4 students,

Due to the current lockdown situation, your previous graduation speech plan and schedule must be modified. This is the new plan.

You still have to write your graduation speech in English and follow the same formatting rules already stated (the font must be 'Century Gothic', size 12; 1.5 line spacing, justified text, page numbers at the bottom centre of each page.)

Before 23:59:59 on Friday 15th May your speech in a PDF file has to reach our e-mail. Your file name MUST be as follows:

Class_Number_Name_1stSurname.pdf - Example: 4A_1_Alfonso_Carballo.pdf

Then you must record a video of yourself delivering your speech (you may use a mobile phone, a camera, etc.) and upload the clip to YouTube, Google Drive, WeTransfer, etc. and send the link to me by e-mail (all you have to do is make sure you create a private channel on any of those platforms so that only you and I can have access to your videoclip and keep it completely private.)
Do not send your videos, only their link.
I must be able to watch the videos online without downloading them!!
I WILL NOT DOWNLOAD ANY VIDEOS WHATSOEVER.

ESO 1: 3rd Term PBL Assignment

COMICS!

Resultado de imaxes para comic book

Dear ESO 1 Students,

This is your last term PBL assignment. Now you will have to create your own webcomic.

To do so, you must craft a creative story and draw your own characters and their roles.

Your comic strips must contain:

- Layout (design)
- Imaginary and unique characters (give them names and moods)
- Dialogues (put your grammar and vocabulary into practice)
- Setting (draw the different places where the story happens)
- Plot (the whole story)

Here you have a video and a website with interesting ideas on how to create your webcomic:

https://www.gocomics.com/ (web comic samples)

After putting all your bright ideas together, you should shape them into cool and eye-catching comic stipes that will bring your heroes to life. Here are some online comic strip creators:

Makebeliefscomix

Pixton

Toondoo

webcomics (Google Play App)

Once you have finished your comic strip, you can send it by email or print it and hand it in in time.

The deadline for this assignment is Friday, May 31, 2019. No assignment will be accepted after this date. Remember that you can send your webcomics before the deadline.

There is an artist inside you waiting to create visual art and take the world by storm.

Good luck on your creations!

2016 Best Graduation Speech, by Mariña Allende

ESO 4 Students,

We give you this year's best graduation speech, by Mariña Allende. Mariña's speech has been chosen not only for its magnificent, deep contents, but because of the brilliant way she delivered it in front of her classmates.

Mariña will be delivering her speech again at your graduation ceremony to be held next Tuesday 21st at 13.00 in our brand new sports and assembly hall.

Good afternoon classmates, teachers, families,
Today is the day. Today we are going to say goodbye to this school. I remember my first day here as if it was yesterday. New city, new school, new people, new world. I was only eight years old, and now, I am sixteen. How fast! At that time, I was braver. I could make friends and I could find my place easily. It is simple: my place, my home, is where people I love are. This school has been a
great home.

I think remembering the school should be like remembering a person: in their beautiful moments. Because memories are made of people and of the moments they give us. That is why I am grateful to this school: it has allowed me to meet amazing and wonderful people who have built my memories and have made me the way I am. Thank you everybody.

Before, I said that I was braver when I was a child. I had doubts for a long time. I thought that I was not good enough. I thought that I was not good enough to do this or to do that; that I was not good enough to be an artist. Should I choose a different way? Should I do a degree with better career prospects? I hear it everywhere. So ridiculous!

Now, I do not have any doubts. Now, I am sure. I am sure that I do not desire that for me. We only live once, so we have to find our way. Let us walk our own way. We do not have to do what they expect from us, but what we expect from ourselves. Do not worry about the future. Future does not exist yet. Live your lives as you wish. We are the owners of our lives, and nobody can change that. Go on, enjoy yourselves and do not fear, because tomorrow is tomorrow. Who knows what will happen tomorrow? Time goes only in one direction. If we think about future every second, we will miss present. And present is a present. Stop saying “maybe I…”

We must do those things we think that we cannot do. Make them possible. It is not only about studying, it is about life. Try to make our dreams come true. Fight for them. Never give up. Work hard. Continue working hard. And, someday, we shall not dream. We shall get it.

Thank you again, classmates and teachers, for your friendship, affection and time. I hope we will have an unforgettable school trip, plenty of laughs, smiles and funny moments.

I wish you all the best. So long.

2015 Best ESO 4 Graduation Speeches.

ESO 4 Students,

Here you are the two best 2015 graduation speeches, by Andrea Aguado and Andrea Cobo, so that you can get some ideas and inspiration. Enjoy both their contents and spirit.

ANDREA AGUADO OLIVEIRA

Good afternoon everybody!

Thanks to all of you for coming. Teachers, here we are again. Parents, hi, mum and dad! And classmates, you are the best.

Eight years ago in third grade primary, I never thought I would be here standing in front of you giving my graduation speech, but now it’s very exciting for me to be here.

Write music, by Gary Provost

This sentence has five words. Here are five more words. Five-word sentences are fine. But several together become monotonous. Listen to what is happening. The writing is getting boring. The sound of it drones. It’s like a stuck record. The ear demands some variety.

Now listen. I vary the sentence length, and I create music. Music. The writing sings. It has a pleasant rhythm, a lilt, a harmony. I use short sentences. And I use sentences of medium length. And sometimes, when I am certain the reader is rested, I will engage him with a sentence of considerable length, a sentence that burns with energy and builds with all the impetus of a crescendo, the roll of the drums, the crash of the cymbals–sounds that say listen to this, it is important.

So write with a combination of short, medium, and long sentences. Create a sound that pleases the reader's ear. Don't just write words. Write music.

How Not to Email your Teacher

In the video below we can hear a professor’s voice criticizing the lack of formality and inappropriate style of an email sent to him by a student.

However, this email was not a word-for-word copy of a student's email but two or three poor emails put together.
