A self-described North Carolina “mountain man” says he saw Bigfoot.
A North Carolina mountain man is getting big press after saying he scared off Bigfoot, but did he catch a glimpse of the famed creature?
Timothy Peeler called 911 after, he says, he chased Bigfoot away from his house. Peeler said the creature was trying to attack his dogs. Charlotte’s NBC affiliate, WCNC, went to Peeler’s home, where he told the story. He was trying to call coyotes when the creature came.
TIM PEELER: “I tried to call ‘em.
This thing was 10 foot tall. He had beautiful hair.
And I said, ‘Get away from here. Get. Get.’
He looked like he had six fingers on each hand.”
Peeler called 911 at about 3 a.m. AOL News has the audio.
TIM PEELER: It looked like a giant ape with a man’s face. If I shot and killed this beast, this animal, or whatever it is, would I get in any trouble?
DISPATCHER: I can’t answer that question.
Peeler said the creature had blondish hair. Creative Loafing compares this to other supposed sightings of Bigfoot: “...footage from other purported Big Foot sightings...only lead to more questions about last week’s sighting...since the beast...is clearly a brunette.”
But there is a history here. Bigfoot sightings have been reported in the area since the late ‘70s, The Charlotte Observer says: “One property owner reported one of his goats died of a broken neck, and newspaper stories from the time report of manhunts – or Bigfoot hunts – by some of the area’s braver residents. Those stories tell of large footprints being found...”
And WTKR, a CBS affiliate in Virginia, says sightings in the area are more common than might be thought, especially in Peeler’s county: “The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization says there have been 57 Bigfoot sightings in North Carolina since 1997, including six in Cleveland County.”
Local police have filed a suspicious persons report in the case, but what do you think? Do you believe in Bigfoot, or is Peeler just another nut?
