Dangers of Careless Internet Surfing

What is the name of your children? What was the price of your house? How much money is there on your bank account? How much did you spend on clothes last month? What is your bank card code number? Your entire life is online, and it may be used against you. That is why you have to be vigilant.

Dave, a grey haired man with a spiritual look on his face, is a fortune-teller. Or better said: he pretends to be a fortune-teller. In fact, he is an actor who constantly gets his information from a small microphone in his ear. The people who provide him with information, are hackers wearing a balaclava and hiding behind a shabby curtain. They are constantly screening public websites for information about the unsuspecting visitors waiting in line for a consultation with this medium. The things they find, are truly spectacular.

Most people indeed spend a lot of time on the internet and share a substantial amount of information about themselves through, for example, social networks. On the internet, you find holiday pictures and family portraits by the hundreds, but also personal data such as a person’s age, address, leisure activities, etc.

You may not be aware of the fact that pretty much of your private life may be disclosed online. This poses a problem, for internet frauds also have access to this information and may use it for their criminal purposes. This will be all the more the case, when you send an e-mail containing your bank card code number or log-in data.

In order to draw your attention on the danger involved as well as on the need for vigilance and caution whenever people send out personal information via the internet, Safeinternetbanking.be has come up with a playful campaign that has been developed in collaboration with the Duval Guillaume Modem communication agency.

This campaign is centered around Dave, a medium endowed with "paranormal" gifts. Passers-by were given the opportunity to ask his personal advice for free. This turned out to be a real success. However, Dave gets his information from a group of hidden hackers who provide him with all of the information the customer has made available on public websites.
